Table tennis is a sport of precision, spin, and speed. Your blade is the core of your racket. It defines how you feel the ball, how you generate spin, how fast you attack, and how much control you keep. When you choose the right blade, you raise your level. You must always match the blade to your current skills.
What Is a Blade
The blade is the wooden part of the racket. Rubbers matter, but the blade sets the foundation of the racket’s performance. It can be all wood or combined with advanced materials such as carbon and synthetic fibers. Most blades use several bonded layers of wood and composites. The shape and handle affect comfort and control.
The most common constructions are 5-ply and 7-ply.
The number of plies matters.
A 5-ply blade offers a strong balance between speed and control. It suits all-round players, defenders, and players who are developing technique or just starting training.
A 7-ply blade is faster and stiffer. It delivers more power and a quicker rebound. It fits attacking players with solid technique, from intermediate to professional level, especially when carbon or synthetic fibers are included.
Blades with a 5+2 structure, like most PARAGON models, are among the most used today. They are fast and offer a larger sweet spot. Higher speed means shorter ball contact time, and the opposite is also true. To cover this full range of speed and dwell time, we developed blades with different composite types, wood layers, and thicknesses.
We also offer two fully wooden models with carefully selected layers. The 5-ply COMPLETUS and the 5-ply EFFECTUS. They combine classic wooden feel, natural vibration, and softness. They deliver clear feedback and strong control. These blades suit beginners and control-focused players, including defenders, all-rounders, and attackers who rely on heavy topspin.
All other PARAGON blades use selected composite materials paired with premium wood veneers. They feature a large sweet spot, reduced vibration, and a wide speed range. This comes from inner and outer composite constructions. In the inner construction, the composite layers sit just above the core. In outer construction, they sit directly under the top wood layer.
Playing Style and Blade Recommendations
Your playing style should guide your choice.
If you play an attacking game, focus on our composite blades. For maximum speed, choose Ultra composites. For more control, choose the standard composites. You can then refine further by selecting inner or outer construction.
If you prefer a control-oriented or defensive game, or if you use pips rubbers, choose fully wooden blades or inner composite models such as PERFECTUS and OPTIMUS. Inner Ultra composite blades like IDEALIS or SUPERIUS are very fast for this style, but some players can still control them with the right rubbers.
Choose carefully. The right blade transforms your performance. Speed, control, and spin come from construction and materials. Use this guide to match them to your skills and your style. As you improve, your choice will evolve with your technique, tactics, and preferences.
When you build your game around a blade that truly fits you, you gain confidence, consistency, and better results.
